Can you brief us on you?
I am a British female professional photographer. I have lived and worked in Abu Dhabi for 12 years. During that time I have had the privilege of being the personal bride’s photographer for royalty and prominent Abu Dhabi and Dubai families.
What is the average of your prices & and what does the price include?
I offer bespoke, packages for my brides. The Standard Pearl Package is 8,000 Aed and consists off five hours continuous coverage of the wedding event, a CD of 350 images , a DVD ‘Wedding Story” set to music and a set of 20 prints. The price of the package depends on the amount of hours the bride’s family requires to cover the event.
How much should I pay as deposit? When should I pay it?
I like to meet with my brides (preferably at their event venue), at this meeting I will show them my wedding album portfolios and a sample of the Wedding Story DVD. If the bride is happy with my work and has chosen a package, we sign a contract and a deposit of 40% of the total package is required to secure the wedding date. The remaining balance is due on the day of the wedding event.
Do you photograph men weddings?
Because of my personable approach and style of photography I am usually hired by the bride and her family to photograph the bride and her female relatives and friends. I also photograph the happy couple before, during and after the event of course!! I have been requested, on occasion to photograph the groom and his relatives too.
What are the types of albums that you provide?
I am fortunate to work with an excellent female wedding Album Designer in Dubai. Because she’s from Dubai, she understands the need for complete confidentiality when creating the albums. My brides have all been delighted with their wedding albums, as my designer works to a very high professional standard, producing beautiful hardback photobooks which is the modern way of preserving wedding images in print. Brides are able to view pages and make alterations to achieve the perfect keepsake of her wedding.
How do you take your shots? Do you ask the bride to stand in particular positions or do you freely photograph her with no instructions?
I use a combination of three styles when shooting a wedding:
1. Magazine-style detail shots. I’m all about the details!. A lot of time, effort and money goes into the wedding event so I make sure that I capture every single detail of the event from close-ups of the bridal jewelry , the dress, flowers and all the details of the venue.
2. Traditional Portraits. Some shots need to be arranged so that nobody is left out! Group family shots are usually requested by the bride’s family. A main aim of mine is always to take stunning shots of the bride from all angles!. During the editing process only shots of the bride at her absolute best are included on the CD. Afterall, every bride wants to look beautiful on their wedding day.
3. Candid shots- that capture the moment: getting ready shots, putting on the jewelry, shoes, veil, preparations at the venue, every smile and special moment will be captured.
Do you involve men in the editing process (montage) of photography?
The reason I have been entrusted to photograph so many Emirati weddings is because I meet with the bride personally, I take all of the pictures. I edit all of the pictures myself and also print the pictures!. At no point in the entire process do men see the bride’s pictures. This ensures absolute confidentiality and also enables me to retain total artistic control over all the images.
At what time you should be available in the banquet hall?
An example of a photography time-line is as follows:
1. Meet with the bride in her room. Take all the detail shots of the dress, jewelry, flowers etc. Take shots of the bride donning the jewelry, shoes, veil. Take some classic bridal portraits. (Sometimes the groom is invited so I can take shots of the couple together)
2. Visit the venue. Take shots of all the details at the venue, table settings, stage, ‘Kusher’(? Special throne/sofa)
3. Back to the bride to capture the moment when she leaves her room and enters the ballroom.
4. Catwalk shots, the bride standing and seated. Guests congratulating the bride (when requested)
5. The groom entering the ballroom! Bride and groom together.
Guests congratulating the couple (when requested).
The bride and groom leaving together.
Bride and groom shots alone.
Do you edit the pictures by Photoshop and other programs?
I edit all the images in Photoshop but I do not do a great detail of re-touching because that does not harmonise with my style of photography. I believe that if you get everything right at the point of capture then people will be shown in their best light and there is no need for a lot of re-touching.
In what way you are unique?
Brides choose me for their personal photographer because they like my natural, contemporary style. I am also used to working with Emirati families and I have lots of experience with the culture and wedding traditions!.
Do you have an advice for the bride?
If you want natural pictures that capture your wedding day you should meet with your photographer beforehand. A relationship of trust must be established before the event. If you feel comfortable with your photographer, then you will get the best shots.
